Part 3. How To Make Positive Affirmations Work For You

Go to table of contents

Do affirmations work?

From a personal experience, I can say a big “yes”, positive affirmations do work.

I’ve been using words, mantras, self-talk, and positive affirmations since 2004 after my girlfriend died in a car accident.

Why did I use them?

Because I wanted to change how I felt and my life trajectory.

I wasn’t going anywhere and felt depressed.

So I started by reading blogs and self-improvement books. Then I started changing my self-talk from negative to positive. Then, I discovered Tony Robbins and started saying affirmations out loud.

It felt a bit weird in the beginning but I was learning from the master itself so I tried.

Later, I developed my own positive affirmations which gave me even more motivation and results.

How long do affirmations take to work?

Affirmations can take just a few seconds up to years before they work.

It depends on many factors and what you’re trying to accomplish.

For example,

  • Is what you’re affirming achievable?
  • Are you repeating your affirmation often?
  • Are you using emotions?
  • Are you visualizing?
  • Are you living your affirmation?
  • Are you taking action every day toward your goal?

In sum, the more crucial and “alive” you make your affirmation, the more likely you’ll reach it.

What’s the best time to say positive affirmations?

The best time to say your positive affirmations is when you just woke up and just before bed.

Why?

Because it’s when your subconscious is the most receptive to your suggestions. (entrepreneur.com)

During the day is fine too but try to be in a calm and confident state.

How many affirmations should I say a day?

There are no limits to the number of affirmations you should say in a day.

However, keep in mind that repetition and emotions are key here.

The more, the better.

A good starting point can be something like 10 affirmations in the morning, 10 at noon, and 10 before bed.

Again, the more emotions, the better. Don’t hesitate to also use your body when saying your affirmations.

What’s a good positive affirmation?

The ideal affirmation is:

  • Starting with “I am”
  • In the present tense
  • Short
  • Important to you
  • Emotional
  • Positive

Examples:
“Yes! Yes!! I am super confident!”
“I am calm and relaxed”
“I handle problems with ease”

Affirmations are a positive step toward bringing into your existence all that you need and want. Iyanla Vanzant (Source)
